Munger for Governor: A Plan for Prosperity
"John's a leader. As a successful businessman, he brings an outsider's perspective to the State's top office. It's clear to me this is what Arizona needs and it's clear to me John's the guy." - Former Governor Fife Symington
MUNGER FOR GOVERNOR: A PLAN FOR PROSPERITY
Welcome to my website! Here you’ll find everything you need to know about our campaign and ways you can get involved in the movement I am leading to return Arizona back to prosperity. With REAL LEADERSHIP and NO EXCUSES, we can stop governing by crisis management and start operating with a strategic vision for the future of our State.
I'm not a professional politican. I am a small businessman who has a Plan for Prosperity which sets the stage for sustained economic growth by:
* Providing tax relief to small businesses and entrepreneurs that will immediately create new jobs and attract new companies into Arizona;
* Enacting regulatory reform to streamline the regulatory process that will get Arizonans back to work within 30 days;
* Implementing a privatized stimulus package that will infuse tens of billions of dollars of private investment into Arizona's infrastructure, including the development of new highways, fast rail systems, nuclear and other renewable energy solutions and sustainable water resources, and;
* Reducing government spending through principled priorities for education and health care.
My Plan for Prosperity will stimulate local job creation, expand economic growth statewide, reduce demand for public assistance programs and address the long term challenges facing Arizona. I believe in the empowerment of free people through the free enterprise system to invest, take risks, create jobs, expand opportunities and improve their quality of life.
I also believe that raising taxes will not create prosperity – it will kill it. Studies show that for every 1% increase in sales tax Arizona will lose between 13,000 and 16,000 jobs per year. That is 13,000 to 16,000 real jobs lost for real Arizona families. We just simply cannot tax our way into prosperity.
There are others who like to claim that we can just cut our budget in order to bring it into balance. What they don’t tell you, however, is that statutory and voter-approved mandates only leave the Arizona Legislature with control over less than 1/3rd of overall State spending. Even the most conservative of legislators do not think that we can responsibly cut enough from these portions alone to balance our budget.
The answer to Arizona’s budgetary problems is not to try to tax our way into prosperity, nor is it to attempt to cut out the very heart of the most basic and necessary parts of our State budget that remain under legislative control. To do so is neither fair nor wise.
Indeed, to cut our way to a balanced budget, we would have to virtually eliminate all general administrative spending which would result in effectively shutting down State government completely. This would eliminate all corrections and prision funding and eliminate all natural resources inspection and regulation services and activities by the State. While some cuts can - and should - be reasonably be made in the State budget, proposing such draconian cuts across the board is not a reasonable or realistic solution to our State deficit problem.
If we had started work on a Plan for Prosperity a year ago, our budget would be balanced and Arizona would be emerging from its economic recession. As Governor, I will reduce government spending by setting principled priorities for the State budget, especially in the areas of education and health care. We can create economic growth and solve the budget problem most effectively by cutting taxes, reforming a regulatory system that chokes investment and infusing Arizona's economy with tens of billions of additional private capital.
We know how to do this – I know how to do this – and with REAL LEADERSHIP and NO EXCUSES, we can make Arizona the small business capital of America, setting the standard for outstanding job creation, high wage salaries, budget surpluses and prosperity for all Arizonans.
